Rewind To 1999 - A Brian Lara Masterclass Leaves The World's Best Bowling Attack Looking Less Than Ordinary

When your side is reeling at 37/4 and you have the likes of Glenn McGrath bowling at you, lesser mortals would have cowered. But the man we are talking about is no ordinary player, he is the Prince of Trinidad

                          - Brian Lara.

On March 14, 1999., Lara played that kind of an innings which pretty much destroys the confidence of the opposition. Australia were at the receiving end. The end result was that afte posting 256 and having the Windies at 37/4, the Aussies went on to lose by 10 wickets.

It was pure timing and power as the gifted southpaw went on the attack. Not allowing the bowlers to settle into a proper line and length, he was in complete beast mode. Runs flowed from his blade with ease and the gaps between fielders were picked with precision. By the end of the day, he had taken Windies to a position of dominance. Though he departed early the next day, the hosts were able to take a lead of 177 and bowled out the visitors for 179 in Kingston. The target of 3 runs was polished off and the series was level at 1-1. Better yet the match was wrapped up in 4 days.

For Lara it was a turnaround not just in form, but as a skipper too. He was getting a lot of flak after the 5-0 drubbing in South Africa, and now with both bat and leadership he was back with a vengeance.

He made 213 in 344 balls. 29 fours and 3 sixes made his innings worth watching and now over 19 years later it is still not forgotten. The Aussies would wish they could forget it, but alas, some memories just do not go away.
